What is Imposter?
Imposter is a social deduction game. Most players know the secret word. One player is the Imposter and has to survive by listening to the clues, blending in, and making a smart guess.
If your clue is too obvious, you help the Imposter.
If your clue is too strange, people may suspect you.
If you are the Imposter, stay calm and improvise.
That balance makes every round funny and different. It also works especially well online: roles stay private, rounds are short, and new players understand the rules quickly.

How to play Imposter online with friends

Create a room
One player opens Aurora Imposter, chooses Use own devices for online play, picks a word pack, and creates the room. If everyone is together, you can also choose Share one device.

Reveal private roles
Most players see the secret word. One player is told that they are the Imposter. Nobody should announce what they saw.

Take turns giving clues
Give one clue that helps the real players recognize the word without making it easy for the Imposter. If the secret word is Pizza, clues might include “cheesy,” “slice,” “Friday,” or “delivery.” For better clue technique, see the Best Imposter Game Clues guide.

Watch for suspicious clues
Listen for someone who sounds too vague, copies the mood, gives away too much, or seems unusually nervous. One odd clue can change the whole vote.

Use extra clue cycles
With Clue Stakes on, the group can ask for another clue cycle. Extra clues can trap the Imposter, rescue a suspicious player, and create wonderfully unnecessary overthinking.

Vote for the Imposter
After the clues, everyone privately votes for the player they think is bluffing. Sometimes the Imposter gives themselves away; sometimes an innocent player gets framed by one awkward clue.

Reveal, react, and play again
Find out whether the group caught the Imposter, whether the Imposter can steal the round by guessing the word, and then start the next round without rebuilding the room.
